Dear readers, below is a letter to Radio Katwe.
We cannot authenticate it, but judge it best to bring it to you as it is.
We have also received reports of an LRA attack to the north of Gulu town. We shall bring you updates if we get them.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 16/06/2008
Lord's Resistance Army/M
LRA Clashed at Uganda Border.
The LRA/M condemns without reservation it deserves, the intrusion and attack by Updf on Monday 16 June 2008 at Nimule as very provocative and dangerous. We denounce the assertions by the Government of Uganda in which it claims peace talks have failed as troubling. The chief mediator has not confirmed nor concluded the ending of talks.
Today's military meeting at Entebbe, in attempt by the Kampala regime to plan military solution to peace talks reaffirms the continued strangulation of Ugandans. These meetings undermine peace negotiations and "the agreement of cessation of hostilities".
The war affected regions belief in, "the peace talk initiated by Vice President, Government of southern Sudan H.E Lt.Gen Riek Machar", as a pillar for lasting peace for the region. We therefore urge the chief mediator Riek Machar and UN appointed special envoy H.E. Former president Joachim Chissano to immediately intervene to ensure that negotiations are resumed as soon as possible.
At same time lra, communicates that all persons involved in the previous negotiating teams have ceased to carry out any activities associated with negotiation on its behalf. Only in exceptional circumstances will considerations take to reappoint those fellows. Lra remains committed to negotiated solution to resolve the conflict; therefore all negotiation must proceed through the newly formed team in order for the final peace agreement to be signed. We note with deep concern the attempts by Dr Obita to meet Dr Rugunda in Kampala today as tragically very misleading.
The advance group from the new team is ready to meet the chief mediator with UN special envoy as a fast approach to getting the talks of talk on the table to avert a major break down of negotiations.
We appeal to the Religious leader, the Vatican, great lakes region leaders, African Union, UN, European Union and Juba peace talk donors to condemn these acts of violations and of war mongering in the strongest terms it deserves.
