Henry Kyemba's price

Dear readers, today we bring you a story that happened 31 years ago which might be of interest to Ugandans and historians. The document was written on 1 of June, 1977 but seen by the British Prime Minister on 2 June.

Minister of Health Mr. Henry Kyemba had run away to London. What is interesting is that in those days when we were thought to be innocent and principled, Mr Kyemba was already ahead. Upon his arrival in London, being the advanced Ugandan he was, Kyemba immediately went to newspapers telling them he had a story, but demanded 'kitu kidogo' before he could talk. We also learn that the newspaper, called the Sunday Times 'coughed' something 'large'.

Mr. Kyemba sold his story to the Sunday Times and a few months later his book State of Blood: The Inside Story of Idi Amin also came out.

The intention of this document below was to use political influence to get publication of Kyemba's story postponed because of the CHOGM meeting in London at that time, which Amin was expected to attend. But the PM thought that was not necessary and was of the opinion that "the timing of the story might in fact suit us quite well"

Note: The signature on the document has been disguised. If someone knows who Kyemba's bodyguard was, please write and tell us. Thank you.

1.

Henry Kyemba's body guard was Vincent Masiga, who is now working as Chief Security Officer with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

In fact he himself talks how he was arrested by the British police in connection with that incident and sent back to Uganda.
Radio Katwe you are just spot on!!!
