Mr Opolot, its a fact. Your boss Museveni is NOT popular
Last updated : 13 Nov 2008, Kampala

Dear Ugandans,

Uganda is fast becoming a funny country where fact is doubtful and fiction is fact. It seems every man and woman wakes up with the sole aim of telling as many lies as possible to his sister and brother in the day.

Take for example this article in today's papers "Govt to contest Daily Monitor poll findings, says Media Centre boss" in reference to the on going publications of findings by a study carried out by the research firm Steadman Group.

One Mr. Fred Opolot the Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre (which technically makes him an employee of the Uganda government i.e a civil servant) is busy contesting the findings on behalf of a political party, NRM.

Now, let Mr. Opolot put thoughts of his fat salary aside and lets now discuss issues openly without bias or preconceptions and see if this study is wrong or right. Since Mr. Opolot reads Radio Katwe, he can respond on these issues below;

The study mentions the following findings. Are Mr. Opolot and his NRM cohorts correct in implying that Ugandans are lying?

  • Museveni's popularity is waning,
  • Museveni cannot win the first round,
  • Museveni cannot get 51% of the popular vote,
  • Museveni has not performed in his 5th term as compared to the other 4 terms,
  • Museveni will never hand over power to the opposition,
  • Museveni's government is very corrupt

Ladies and Gentlemen, which of these is false or inaccurate? In the eyes of the public, what the study is saying is correct and accepted as mere fact by most Ugandans. Mr. Opolot is just speaking because he has mouths to feed, otherwise his opposition to the findings is just not credible and has no scientific basis considering not only the reality on the ground but past trends.

Ugandans have seen a steady decline of Museveni's assumed "popularity". I used that word with some reservations because this popularity is based on the fictitious measure of number of votes garnered in elections. But in the past 3 elections Museveni gained the majority through stolen votes, and that is the basis of his presumed popularity. Museveni can never win a free and fair election, lets not fool ourselves.

By now, which Ugandan can ever doubt that Museveni and his government are corrupt? Mr. Opolot, the ink on Temangalo/NSSF saga has barely dried, the pain and anger is still fresh in the minds of Ugandans. The craven, shameful performance of the NRM dominated parliament and its compromised Speaker Mr Edward Ssekandi is there for all to see. Incidentally if you follow this Speakers tenure, a trend emerges where he is never so assertive, animated and outspoken as when defending his party (NRM) or masters' dubious programs.

Who can doubt Museveni's own words that he can never hand over power to 'backward forces' (implying the opposition)? The irony is that it is he who took over an operational country but has set it on a course where it is hurtling towards the 18th century at full speed, and yet has the gall to speak of others as backward!

Where was our good friend Mr. Fredrick Opolot in 1996, when one Yoweri "Kaguta" Museveni stated that, had Paul Ssemogerere won the elections, he would have 'gone back to the bush' (perhaps an appropriate 'home' considering his pathetic public manners and improper grooming)?

Mr. Opolot, you are a young, bright man and a government civil servant, so please stop making a fool of your self since at this stage of the game there is nothing to show for Museveni's 22 years in power. You are not fooling anyone except yourself because even Museveni and his NRM are fully aware of all their incompetencies, corrupt tendencies, tortures, killings and fading popularity. Otherwise, why do you suppose Museveni deploys the army to harass the population to vote for him on top of direct stealing of votes?

Museveni claims he loves being 'scientific' (beware, what he has in mind may not necessarily be what you understand as science), so lets challenge him to a truly scientific popularity contest: Let him allow the opposition parties their constitutionally guaranteed freedoms, allow the Electoral Commission to hold free and fair elections without interference and then wait for the outcome. That would be a true litmus test (to borrow his word) and the best test of his popularity. Mr Opolot, be mindful that in this, we are not asking for favors, only for the opportunity to put your word to the test, without your government interfering with or manipulating the process. Do we have a deal?

Mr. Opolot, anything less than that is just NRM talking-points for propaganda purposes and trying to earn favor with your boss in the hopes of more bread for your mouth (nothing personal). Otherwise be informed that the tomfoolery has gone on for too long. Everyone can see through these foolish games so spare us the drama, its not funny.

For God and My Country.

In response to Mr. Opolot, we Ugandans know that M7 is a 'chicken thief', mentally sick and needs to be admitted in Butabika hospital before he runs down this country right off the edge. So if you want to keep on dancing to his tunes because you think with your stomach we are not part of it.

let us wait in few days, New Vision/radio stations owned by NRM asssociates will come up with there own poll findings about their boss/NRM

3.

So, a Mr. Fred Opolot of the NRM's Uganda Media Centre, has been dragged out to publicly contest the Daily Monitor poll findings?

I wonder, will the NRM govt now conduct their own polls to challenge the Daily Monitor's?

That would be interesting...will they be 'convincing', 'persuading' hapless interviewees to make them change their minds about NRM? What will be their reaction, I wonder, when they come across the views of those who have simply had enough of this rotten, criminal regime?

Will the results be doctored? Or, will the results even be published in the end??

I won't be surprised if the findings never see the light of day.

RK,

I read about this fellow defending Museveni's popularity and got annoyed!

You need to know that most of Museveni's Spokesmen do what they do for money, and not so much for what they see as reality. The fellow Fred Opolot was grassing in London and actually stole our money at Iteso Welfare Association when he was Chairman some few years back.

Sensing where the gravy train was heading, the fellow jumped into NRM, and actually stood for MP Kasilo in Teso but was summarily defeated because for us in Teso we didn't see any reason to trust him.

The latest information I picked up was that he had abandoned his wife and children in London when Museveni gave him a job. He is now living with a concubine who also works in Museveni's Office, by names of Charity Mugalu. Both of them were cadres in NRM UK before returning to juicy jobs in Uganda.

These men without morals, the likes of Ofwono Opondo who steals pants are the kind of people Museveni picks to speak for him. Shame shame shame!

RK and Readers,

People like Fred Opolot have signed a contract with the devil to destroy this country. Opolot will tell lies on behalf Museveni until he becomes mad like him. If the likes of Opolot knew a bit of the psych of Museveni how he dehumanized his spokespersons, assistants and even his former ADCs, he would not have accepted that job.

We should thank God he didn't give everybody the ability to see the mind of thier leaders. Otherwise if Ugandans could see what is in Museveni's mind, no one would like to sit near him nor shake his hands. He is the devil incarnate! That is why Museveni resents psychologists, because they can read his mind.

Unfortunately because of ignorance and naivity Opolot is trying to defend the indefensible. Opolot should ask himself why did Onapito leave the State (power) House and go into PR in a brewery? Opolot should be ashamed of himself. Here a president who presided over the roasting of fellow countrymen in a rail wagon in Mukura. How greedy can one become?

I just wonna talk about Opolot. Is he not an Itesot? He must be mad to defend Kaguta.I think it is too soon for him to forget the the Itesots M7 roasted in the train wagon in Mukura to mention the least. So many attrocities have been committed by M7 on Ugandans. This mad man is there because of the guns. If this guns were not there and the elections were free and fair this mad man would have already exited to Luzira or ICC.

I believe that we as Ugandans can bring change. We have to wake up and stand agaist this man. Obama has done although his change came because he is in a developed country. We have to come together as abused Ugandans to bring change. If we stand together with an identified front in the eyes of the world, this change will definitey come. We do not want to die in Britain. We want to go back home and develope our country with the knowledge we have got from Britain!!!!
