Frank talk on Kagame's Rwanda
Last updated : 26 June 2008, Kampala

I am Tutsi myself. I fought the war and did a lot to stop the genocide. I agree that the 1994 genocide was planed by selfish politicians in the region as well as some politicians in Europe. If you asked me to tell you why I fell out with Kagame, my simple answer is that I thought Kagame was going to usher in fundamental change. This did not happen. I wanted him to democratize Rwanda. I wanted him to reduce the powers of the president, I wanted him to go beyond ethnic divisions, I wanted him to unite Rwandans. This he failed. First, it became a principle that any Tutsi army officer who got involved with or married a Hutu lady was either killed or the relationship was frustrated. This was done with Kagame's approval.

What is interesting is that the game Kagame is playing against the Hutu and Twa is the very game the Hutu will play against the Tutsi when they also reorganize and come to power. You wait, it wont take too long! The good thing is that it looks like Radio Katwe is here to stay and the very people who defend Kagame will be the very people complaining when their turn comes.

It is true there are no identity cards indicating who is Tutsi, Hutu or Twa. But frankly speaking, is there any sober person who has ever lived in Rwanda under Kagame that would say there is no discrimination? True, discrimination in Rwanda is now done secretly unlike before the Genocide. For example, let us mention the two camps that are the masters of appointments in Rwanda namely the James Musoni and the Dr. Ndahiro camps. Who can qualify through either of these camps for appointment if he/she is not Tutsi? No doubt there are some Hutus in "strategic" places. But let us be open, do such people like the Prime Minister, the Speaker of Parliament, the Minister of defense, etc, all of whom are Hutu, make any crucial decision? It is even clear from their facial expression that they are insecure. Some Tutsi young boys are real the controllers of these seemingly strong men. Friends ... let us be frank. Kagame regime must change or else, when the Hutu finally take power, the Tutsi should be prepared to be treated the same way.

There is a problem in Kigali under Kagame, every thing that comes up, they will immediately go to their defensive. Every body who tries to say something contrary to the "correct line" is immediately referred to as a killer!

By the way, do you know how many people we as RPA killed in Byumba and in many other places? Why isn't this also talked about openly? Do you know how many Hutu that were killed by RPA?! Do you know how many Tutsi have been killed by Kagame? Dont just blindly defend Kagame, he is a killer!! This he knows himself. He even ever asked us in some senior officers' meeting "what will happen when the world comes to know everything we did?" Do you think France and Spain are stupid? Those guys are right. The only mistake they did is that their list of wanted RPA officers is short. Also, the list does not include Tutsi civilians who killed. Otherwise Kagame is a killer!
(The writer is referring to international arrest warrants issued by a Spanish judge. See "Spanish judge issues arrest warrant for 40 Rwandan army officers and men" of 13 Feb 2008 on our front page - Editor)

The common belief that Kagame does not stomach corruption .. wait a moment! All the names of people like Kalegeya and others, whom Kagame allegedly "dealt with" for corruption are simply sacrifices. It is because they disagreed with the guy ( Kagame) on the way forwards for the administration of the state. The real corrupt people who accept to do business for Kagame are never bothered! Consider James Musoni, Dr. Ndahiro, Nziza, among others. The good thing with Kagame, and as some writer refered to him as being good at creating a positive image of himself in public is that when one opposes him, he will get rid of that person under pretext of "fighting corruption". What about Kagame's wife? Do you know how corrupt she is? What about the Charles Kayongas, James, etc.. these are extremely corrupt guys.

Just pray that there is a change in Kagame's approach or let us us pray for a bloodless regime change in Kigali.

Mugisha ( Europe)

Dear editor of Radio Katwe,

Thank you for allowing people to speak out their opinions.

I was reading the " frank talk on Kagame`s Rwanda" and I am very happy of the author who seems to be a true balanced Rwandan. We need more like him who can make a difference in many wounded hearts of Rwandans. The extremists either Hutu or Tutsi are mentaly and spiritualy handicaped and nothing positive and good can come out of their hearts and mouth. Among them are the guys who say that Kagame is not a killer and his political system is perfect. Shame on those doomed spirits.

Prof. Amani

Radio Katwe comment: Dear Prof. Amani, thank you for your letter. For us we see a small problem in Rwanda today of hero worship. There are extremists on both sides, some who see only black, while others see only white. This is not good, reality in the world is full of other colours, not just black and white.

Am a Rwandese and very hurt by what i have read. Well to some point it is your job but then it is too much, you people it is as if you know our country more than we do, or you were here during the genocide? I was here and i know what he has done to us and its like you are so concerned about him not any other president, how come the whole world appreciates what he does and what he did, is it because there are no jounalists there? or is it because you people know more than others do? If there are other Rwandese who dont appreciate him fine but me i do,i really see the change that is taking place in our country, why dont you really give the old man peace for God's sake?

i suggest you first see where the country is heading and then you write after, our country is just developing at a high rate which is good, please stop calling him a dictator please us we appreciate him the way he is please radio Katwe forgive us and leave us in peace with our president. Otherwise thank you but please thnk abt it. and this goes to my fellow Rwandese who are out there in Uganda depising our country and the president please and please get something else to do if thats the only thing you can do get something else. Thank you.

Dear sir, I hope we did not make you cry as that is not our intention. It is quite okay to disagree but we remain talking as fellow human beings, if not friends.

We cannot claim to know more than others, but one thing for sure is Paul Kagame spent most of his life in Kampala and we are 100% sure he is not god. He has his good points and weaknesses. Criticising him and past crimes is not blasphemy like cursing God. No one is perfect and criticism handled well is what makes us better people, not floating around in a bubble of praises. Too much success will not kill your beautiful country, but lack of self-criticism can.

The success of Rwanda is Uganda's gain, and Africa's glory.

You know how this Museveni and his henchmen they made us 'sleep' until we could not take a critical look? Now we are having very big problems which started small small. Do not make the same mistake. You are a man, praise the good, criticise the bad openly.

Dear RK,
I wish to draw the attention of Mr. Mugisha in Europe who fallaciously seem to be determined to propagate genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda. Mugisha in his second paragraph asserts thus:"...the game Kagame is playing against the Hutu and Twa will be the same game the Hutu will play against the Tutsi when they reorganize and come to power, you wait and it will not take long..." This statement is horrifying and not worthy of writing in an honourable site like this.

I think it is a time to build on what is happening in Rwanda to unite and reconcile the Rwandans other than sowing seeds of hatred among brothers and sisiters. Whta on earth did the Tusti offend mr Mugish to deserve annihilation? Mr. Kagame is is mature and responsible for his actions and it would be a fallacy to implicate all Tutsi because of Kagame's deeds in case Mugisha is not happy with Him.

Mugisha, the name sgnify " Blessings" from God of life not of death. Cant Mugisha therefore beat drums of peace and reconciliation to match his name and avoid contradicting his identity. To Mugisha and those with similar ideas, I wish to refer them to prophet Isaiah 2:4 which says: "MUTERANNO LE LORO SPADE IN ZAPPE E LE LORO LANCE IN FALCI; UN NAZIONE NON ALZERA' LA SPADA CONTRO UN' ALTRA E NON PRATICHERANNO PIU' LA GUERRA".

It is such a wish and prayer for the Rwandans and Africans in general, that we can togther stand and recognize that each person is indispensable for development, which we badly need.

Foreigners by the way laugh at us and continue to associate us with beasts who survive by the fittest. They manifacture arms and sell them to us for killing one another when they get our money which would otherwise help in stocking our hospitals with essential drugs and build neccessary infrastructure. They manifacture AIDS/HIV, so that we can buy their condoms. They encourage us to send our children to religious life and remain celebate where as for them they multiply and as if the population is not low enough, we turn swords against one another. When shall we learn, my friends, the Africans who beat drums of war?? Radio Katwe, you are tasked to spread messages of peace and not of war and that will be you Testimony to a world divided by greed for money and power yet end result is the grave where non will enter with that money and/or power.

Thanks very much.
JARIBU.

SEEMS TUTSI BLOOD HAUNTS MANY.

Dear RK, I wish to react to some people's nagative images put on you site agaisnt Tutsi's. The tusti's have never offended God or humanity as some like Mugisha who claims to be a Tusti and living in Europe says. In his second paragraph, he shamelesslly asserts that what Kagame is doing in rwanda will baounc back when the Bahutu reorganizes and turn round to do the same to the Tutsi's. Does he want to tell the readers that Mr. Kagame does what he does on behalf of the Tuts's?? Mugisha should be old enough to lear to separate millet from the weed. Any person is responsible personally and never should a whole set of people be blamed for the mistakes of individuals.

Any freely act done must be judged as a personal esponsibility. His suggestion seems to stirr the Rwandan community into another genocide but since you failed when you had the Satate Machinary, I don't think you will ever manage to accomplish that evil plan. Every body know what Kagame and his Government has done to bring sanity to the State of Rwanda and resoerd human dignity to the Rwandans irrespective their ethnic inclinations. When you say that you participated in the killing then better tell that to the judges at Arusha and seek forgiveness from the orphans you left behind. That blood will follow you remember, as it followed the killers who run into Congo. many perished under cholera and dysently if you can remember. God cannot condon evil and you may hide ut you will never escape Hi divine Judgement.

I happened to of age when Rwandans, majority of them Tutsi's were living in Kyangwali. But the United Nations never gave them the required human attention as they have done to your like the killers now hidding there It is now accessible from Hoima to Kyangwali by road but during the Tutsi's stay there they would walk or spend a couple of days between Kabwoya and Rwemisanga. No dream was ever there for a small car to reach Kasonga, but now the world can see the services the UN, has renered to the killers, now hidding there. The boys from Kyangwali who fought for their liberation have never forgotten their cause and now way will you disorient them from working for the total liberation of the Rwandans.

Who can forget the discrimantion they went through in social life while in settlements like kahungye, kamwengye and Kyaka. Those who died in Ankole in 1982, will never be forgotten and so the regime now has the Philosophy of NEVER AGAIN.

Kabagambe,
Hoima.
