For sometime now, Radio katwe has been trying to look into the murder of Robinah Kiyingi. This was a lawyer who was gunned down in 2005 outside her home. She had been the country chapter head of Transparency International for Uganda.
The state trumped up charges and made it seem as if Robinah was murdered by her husband Dr Aggrey Kiyingi.
We have not made much progress but we are still on the case. New leads and information are welcome.
Some months ago, a source has gave us information which they say was got from another high level intelligence source.
This source is telling us that Kiyingi was shot dead in a plan hatched by the First Lady of Uganda Janet Museveni and her henchman Major General Jim Muhwezi. The story goes that Janet Museveni and Jim Muhwezi were trying to erase the trail of the money which they had stolen from the Global Fund for AIDS Malaria and Tuberculosis.
This source is telling us that they believed that Robinah Kiyingi had the information incriminating them on her laptop computer. That is why the laptop was taken from the crime scene and it was never seen again.
Radio Katwe had said that Robinah Kiyingi was murdered on direct orders of Museveni. The source is saying no, it was Museveni's wife and Jim Muhwezi who did it.
We cannot say at ths time whether this information is accurate or not. If you have information to support or discredit this new allegation, we appeal to please help us and send it in.
Soon after she was murdered, President Museveni told a press conference in Kampala that he was following the case and he had a interest in it. Many prominent people have lost their lives during his reign but it is not everyday that Museveni annouces a personal interest in a case.
Though not surprisingly, there is nothing to show for this presidential concern. Like the Budo fire, it is a strange habit of Museveni to make statements soon after a tragic incident, but without a single exception, his words always come to nothing.
