Baganda youth plan demo on Friday, CMI plans violent counter demo
Last updated : 25 Jul 2008, Kampala

Information arriving at the desk of Radio Katwe shows that there is a lot to worry about in Kampala. We have got reliable reports that radical Baganda youth are planning a demonstration around Mengo on Friday July 25, 2008 against the re-arrest of the three Baganda leaders.

The demonstration by a group called the Zambogo (or Nkobazambogo) youth is supposed to be peaceful. But we hear that CMI has been assembling some thugs the whole of Thursday to prepare for a counter demonstration to take place in a part of town which we do not yet know about.

The plan of the CMI-orchestrated demonstration is for the thugs disguised as Baganda youth to cause havoc, burn property belonging to Bahima, set cars on fire, and throw stones at buildings in Kampala.

Then with this chaos orchestrated by CMI's sponsored thugs, the government will come out and "condemn" the violence by the "Baganda youth", and use that as an excuse to take more draconian measures like arresting more prominent Baganda alleged to be behind the violence.

An SMS has been going round to thousands of phones telling people in Uganda that there is going to be a violent demonstration on Friday, so they should stay away from town. The SMS has been generated by CMI to put Kampala on tension and make Ugandans blame Mengo for the chaos.

Let us see how the day goes. The situation which started with a Buganda conference at Hotel Africana is threatening to turn into a state of emergency in Uganda if we are not careful.
